I always harp on about how Judd Apatow and his cohorts, have shaped my generation's moronic sense of humour and how they bring so much joy to our lives.
While that is 100% accurate, I have to say that Jim Carrey is a completely different kettle of fish, he is literally in our make up as human beings - I absolutely believe that my friends and I are the hilarious, self-deprecating, idiots we are today because of Jim Carrey - Judd Apatow came along much later and just egged us on ha ha
He is a true joy in my life and the lives of all of my friends.
Never met the bloke but whatever ha ha
My point is, his films are and always will be, massively important to me and I feel privileged to be part of the generation that got to grow up with him shaping our attitudes and sense of humour - none of my friends or myself for that matter, take ourselves too seriously and that is such a luminous quality to have in life - if you can't laugh then what's the point in breathing???
Anyway - Jim Carrey is 55 today (I know) so here's his birthday top ten..........
(Its actually 12 and I was really harsh with myself as well!!!)
12. Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind
This movie proved that he is an amazingly talented actor and not just a total goof.
11. I Love You Phillip Morris
Perfect combo of total goof and serious actor - this is actually one of my favourite films.
10. Bruce Almighty
To be honest, I think Steve Carrell is the funniest thing about this film for me - hilarious.
9. Lemony Snicket's - A Series of Unfortunate Events
Jude Law's narration alone makes me watch this film repeatedly.
8. Earth Girls Are Easy
If you haven't seen this, please find it and watch - make sure you look past that fact that its completely stupid and just enjoy a very young Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans.
I'm going to struggle for words now because these films don't need any words, they are self explanatory.....
7. The Mask
"Enjoy your victory; WITH ONE FRIGGIN EYE!!"
6. The Grinch
"A whooby whatty?"
5. Liar Liar
"STOP BREAKING THE LAW ASSHOOLLLLLEEE"
4. Me Myself and Irene
"The names Hank, fuck face"
3. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
"This is a lovely room of death!"
1. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
You'll notice that I have made this a joint number one and that's because I simply cant choose. If you think you can then that's probably because you haven't seen Ace for a long time - watch it again and thank me later.
1. Dumb and Dumber
*insert picture of me and my friends*
Jim Carrey, we love you - Happy Birthday :-)
