Logan is a 2017 American Superhero film bringing us the last appearance of Hugh Jackman's beloved X-Men franchise character, Wolverine.
To be perfectly honest, I don't even want to write this post.
I don't think the written word can do this film any sort of justice - everyone needs to go and see it immediately.
I can't even begin to describe how perfect this movie is and as much as I never wanted to see an end to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, I can't think of a more fitting way to say goodbye.
Thanks to the force of nature that is Ryan Reynolds and the doors he kicked open with Deadpool, we are being blessed with a new wave of R rated level, mainstream superhero movies that are just flawless.
Even with no signs of the polish and slapstick that came hand in hand with Deadpool, Logan is a perfect example of how far the envelope has been pushed since Iron Man.
Logan is sepia toned and melancholy, emotionally raw and soul crushingly real but so gloriously violent, like get you riled up but also make you feel a bit sick violence, expletive laden, and touchingly funny, that it made me beam and sob in equal measure. In fact I was still trying not to cry on the way home. Probably could cry now if i'm honest.
I have absolutely zero complaints to make about any aspect of this film.
Hugh Jackman looks like hammered shit for 99% of this film but you can really see a starkly human side to his character, that is glossed over so much in all the other X-Men films. They tried to make him completely human in The Wolverine, but failed in my opinion.
Dafne Keen, the 12 year old female lead is a force to be reckoned with, I've never seen such poise and physical prowess in such a young actress. Fucking people up with your Adamantium claws, while maintaining enough childish innocence to make the audience weep, is quite a thing to witness. I can't wait to see where she goes from here.
Boyd Holbrook, who I spent the whole film squinting at trying to work out who the fuck he was, actually gave me chills in his Ted Bundy-esque charismatic psycho performance. So quiet and cock sure. Even the gold tooth wasn't unnecessary, it just gave him that sinister, cartoonish edge.
I won't elaborate anymore on anything because I don't want to spoil this experience for anyone who sees it.
I will say that the ending of the movie is like a knife in the gut and Johnny Cash's dulcet tones just serve to ram it home. I was crushed.
Everyone involved in every aspect of this movie should just retire now because it won't be beaten.
