Trying to compile a list of 10 films, that I really really loved, that really got me over excited or really struck me in some way, was SO HARD. Like, incredibly difficult - the first few were easy for me and just came from memory but I actually had to look at a list of 2016 releases to find the rest. Shocking.
Anyway here goes (in some sort of order, I suppose)
10. Suicide Squad
I have to start by saying, I am painfully aware that this was a big pile of dog shit.
I was as disappointed by this trainwreck as everyone else was. BUT it was a massive moment in cinematic history for me. I also have to say that there is an amazing film in there, they just have to remove every single trace of Cara Delevingne and re edit the entire thing and we'd be golden.
9. Deepwater Horizon
I have to include this because it absolutely destroyed me. If I had been at home and not the cinema, I would have been howling. My entire body was wracked with sobs, I couldn't sit still and it took me a while to collect myself enough to stand up. Anything that provokes that sort of reaction from me, deserves a place in my top ten. Yes, I do cry at everything but this was extra special; this was Lone Survivor crying - obviously, because Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg breathed near it.
8. War Dogs
I love Miles Teller and I still havent seen Bleed for This (whoops) so War Dogs automatically gets a place. Todd Phillips movies are common place in my life so they're oddly comforting in all their techinicolour glory. Also - its an amazing true story.
7. American Honey
The film that made me decide that Shia Ledouche was no longer an approriate name and also made grieve my youth so fervently, I could feel this film stealing a tiny piece of my soul, with every passing second.
6. Green Room
Poor Anton's last film and what a beautifully violent and hauntingly neon infused nightmare, it was. Not even nearly enough attention was paid to this blood thirsty corker.
5. Dont Beathe
I actually physically gagged at this and as with Number 9, anything that gets me to react in a physical manner gets my vote, totally. It was exhasuting to watch and the main cast completely blew me away.
4. Nocturnal Animals
I cant even begin to tell you how beautiful this film is (actually I can I've written a whole post). Its sick and twisted and dark and sumptuous. A total treat for the eyes and ears and Aaron Taylor Johnson MELTED MY FACE with his acting. The whole thing just pains me, in the most excutiatingly delicious manner!
3. Hell or High Water
This film makes my heart ache and my soul glow.
2. Brotherhood
I have written a whole post on how much I love this film and how important it is to british cinema. Another one that made me laugh, cry, gag, smirk, cringe etc etc a total rollercoaster and a total masterpiece. How you got that rating is beyond me!! The BBFC obviously have soft spot for you.
1. Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds is a genius. This film is absolutely fucking hilarious and over indulgent and heartwarming and violent and everything else you want it to be. It absolutely deserves my top spot. Also another one that has a questionalble rating - 15??? REALLY???
Honourable Mention
Batman Vs Superman
I LOVED this film - its Batman AND Superman on one screen - dunno what all you miserable bastards were moaning about.
